Tips

In Galicia, the greatest highlight is Santiago de Compostela, in which pilgrims are drawn into the famous "Camino de Santiago" from all over the world. The city offers to all tourists, pilgrims or not, the splendid cathedral, squares, historic buildings and churches in its old city center. The path or rather the paths of Santiago, in Galicia, are, by their own, an attraction that deserves an extra trip.
However, to believe that Galicia is limited to Santiago de Compostela is a common mistake. Those who go to Santiago de Compostela can enjoy visiting all of Galicia. The land of the Galicians preserves old cities and monasteries, palaces (palaces or very peculiar castles) and villages reduced to the church square and a few small houses. Walking through Galicia fields, you'll notice the curious maize deposits leaning on four stone supports (Hórreos), you'll be able to see a landscape with beautiful ponds, green forests, and mountains, which contributes in keeping this region in a semi-isolation.

Must visit & Major attractions:
Ourense: with its beautiful cathedral, famous for its thermal waters, preserves a medieval historic center and a 13th century stone bridge, built especially to ease the passage for the pilgrims that went to Santiago de Compostela. In Ourense, it is also mandatory a visit to Ribeira Sacra and Canón do Sil, a place to admire the charming monasteries that for centuries have been completely separated and isolated from the rest of the world. You can choose between a few routes or if you have the time, do it all, because it is worth it: Romanic route (Ourense - Cape of the World), monasteries route (Monforte - Parada de Sil - Ourense), Encoros route by car or by catamaran), the miño river route (Monforte - Chantada - Monforte). A day is required to do each of the routes. Still in Ourense, visit the Hórreos, famous buildings made of stone or wood, raised from the ground by pillars and used to store crops. It is an opportunity to appreciate the rural architecture of Galicia. In Ourense, you can see no less than 34 Hórreos. The largest set of the entire region.

Lugo: with its defense walls, is the most notable example of Roman military architecture in Spain. Legend has it that the Romans built this wall not to protect people but to protect a forest. " The Sacred Grove of Augustus ". Construction of more than 17 centuries, measuring more than 2 kilometers and with 10 doors in total. Besides its beauty, you´ll also have a beautiful city view.
La Coruña, with the harbor dominated by the Hercules lighthouse, built by the Romans, and houses with glazed balconies, which earned the nickname "crystal city" it is another must-visit to anyone who is touring Galicia.

Costa da Morte & La Coruña: The coast of Galicia, with amazing beaches, is characterized by deep rivers, where fishing villages and buildings on stilts make up a very unique landscape. At the bottom of one of these rivers is Pontevedra, a graceful medieval city that preserved its historic center.
Torres de Hercules, located in Coruña, the tower is the city symbol. Besides admiring it from outside, it is possible to visit the inside structure, which is also a museum. The tower
has an amazing night view. The Atlantic Islands National Park has a famous beach that was chosen by The Guardian newspaper  " as the best beach in the world". The park is located in the Rías Baixas and it is formed through the Cortegada e Sálvora archipelagos.

Gastronomy
For gastronomy lovers, Galicia is an unforgettable region of Spain, full of activities to do and typical dishes. Its strong reference is the local products and the seafood recipes, considered the best in Spain. During dessert time, try the famous "Tarta de Santiago". To accompany this fine food, tourists can enjoy the excellent wines produced in the region, among the most famous are Ribeiro and Albariño. Or, you can try a popular beverage called "Galician burnt",  it's a brandy that burns in a clay bowl according to the region's traditions.
