Tips

In the northern part of the country, we will find more natural landscapes also known as the "Green Spain".
Formed by the Principality of Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country, this region is described by its lower temperatures and surrounded by nature. The Atlantic coast is also very popular, especially San Sebastián, in the Basque Country, where the beaches - exceptional and beautiful - are an attraction for European tourists.

Must visit & Major attractions:
- San Sebastian - One of the main cities of the Spanish Basque Country, radiates joy and life, the Old Town has a lively evening and it's full of Tapas Pubs. The beach is very hectic too, in the mid-XIX century style with beautiful mansions facing the sea.
- Bilbao - mandatory stop by the Guggenheim Museum and the tradition of "pintxos" (typical northern Spanish tapas).
- Santander - Another summer resort, very popular to English, with a large harbor with direct ferries to England. Beautiful mansions in an aristocratic setting make the city with a lavish style. With 185 thousand inhabitants, the city suffered a great fire in 1941 that destroyed more than 2300 buildings. Therefore, much of its center is new to European standards, despite its cultural roots dating back more than two thousand years. The beaches are quite busy, El Sardinero the most well known, Camello and Bikini are the most beautiful ones. In 1913 La Magdalena Palace was inaugurated, in the peninsula of La Magdalena, that would be king Alfonso XII's residence during its summer resorts in Santander. These visits generated new Belle Époque architectural designs and large bathhouses similar to those of Biarritz. Thus, they built the Hotel Reale and the Gran Casino.

- Santillana del Mar - A medieval town particularly charming, known for its excellent cider and preserved like old times. It's entitled as one of the most beautiful Spanish villas. Nearby is the Altamira Museum, a cave with prehistoric cave paintings that you can visit interesting and illustrative replicas. Around 13,000 years ago, a rockslide blocked the entrance of the cave, preventing the continuing human occupation and preserving its interior. Known as the Sistine Chapel of cave art, it’s described by its pictures represented in a realistic style. They contain polychromatic cave paintings, which represent animals, abstract designs in a very peculiar environment.
- Comillas - A very beautiful beach, a very charming historical center and to complete some of the first works of Antoní Gaudí, a house of an eccentric patron who wished for an oriental style house, called Capricho. It is one of the few modernist works outside of Catalonia. Comillas was one of the summer destinations of Spanish royalty in the 19th century and because of that, it became an aristocratic city with amazing infrastructures. Indicated early by the doctor on the 20th century "Baños de Ola" became a spa as well as Santander, San Sebastian, Biarritz, Cannes or Nice began to be frequented by the bourgeoisie indicated by hygienist doctors.
- Peaks of Europe - are the highest mountains of northern Spain, the Picos de Europa National Park.
- Asturias: The coast is cut and green, thanks to the great amount of rain that never makes the climate very hot in this "north of God"
- Oviedo - Capital of the Principality of Asturias. A welcoming, rich and beautiful city. The city is full of sculptures that add charm and value to its clean, tree-lined streets.

 Gastronomy
All kinds of exotic and tasty seafood, fish, octopus, and squid are fresh and prepared on the plate simply and healthily, accompanied by a wine or a caña (beer). The Galician octopus, known as Pulpo à Feira, is simply cooked and sprinkled with coarse salt and pepper, a luxury! To top it all off, small churros served with a thick hot chocolate!
