Of all the roads in Portugal, there is one with a mystic and something legendary that distinguishes it from the others, and which has been given the name of National Road No. 2. It is the most extensive road in Europe and the only one to cross Portugal through. Built to connect the city of Chaves to the city of Faro, its 738 km promise to be an unforgettable tour through the entire backbone of the country. This road crosses 36 municipalities, crossing through the interior of the villages and connecting landscapes as different as the Douro vineyards, the Alentejo plains or the Algarve beaches. It should be noted that the section covering the itinerary linking Almodôvar to São Brás de Alportel was classified in 2003 as heritage road.
